Compass Interpreters is a division of the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees. Compass Interpreters is based in Utica, NY, however we service the Albany and Syracuse areas and several counties including Albany, Herkimer, , Madison, Monroe, Onondaga, and Rensselaer. We are also available to respond to needs from any organization outside of our geographic base via telephone, video or for special circumstances in person.
Our interpreters speak over 45 languages and dialects. All interpreters complete the Cross Cultural Health Care Program’s, nationally recognized medical interpreter training course, Bridging the Gap. Our interpreters have also received training for interpreting in situations involving domestic violence and regularly interact with the legal system via appointments with courts, lawyers, and police.
We have a large pool of interpreters speaking languages of limited diffusion including Karen (S’gaw), Karen (Pwo-Western), Kizigula, Maay Maay and Masalit. We also have highly skilled individuals speaking Arabic, Bosnian, Nepali, and Spanish. To see a complete list of the languages we offer click here.

Compass Interpreters expertise is based on over 30 years of resettling refugees. In addition to interpretation and translation services we also provide Cultural Competency Training and Consulting.
